Use Claude as a Habit Tracker That Keeps Your Streaks
Claude can be your habit tracker: tell it when you worked out, read or meditated, and it logs the habit for you. On its own, Claude forgets those check-ins when the chat ends. Connect Dashly and each one is saved with its date, so Claude can tell you your streak any time and your wall shows the whole week.
Why habits slip through the cracks of a chat
Habits are about repetition, and repetition needs a record. “Did I meditate on Tuesday?” is easy to answer if something wrote it down, and impossible if it lived in a conversation you closed.
Claude is good at the conversation part. You can tell it you are trying to read every night, and it will encourage you, suggest a time, and help you work out why last week went badly. What it cannot do by itself is count. Each new chat starts without the history of the last one, so the streak you were proud of is only as reliable as your own memory.
Tell Claude once what to track
With Dashly connected, setting up a habit is one sentence: “track my reading, I want to read every night”, or “keep track of the gym, four times a week”. Claude creates the topic in Dashly with that goal.
After that, you do not need to say “log this” again. When you mention it, Claude records it. “Read for 20 minutes before bed” becomes a check on today. “Hit legs at the gym” counts toward your four this week. If you mention two habits in one message, both get logged.
Streaks and best runs
Each habit gets a tile on your Dashly wall. It shows how many days you managed this week against your goal and your current streak, with a small picture of the run. Open the topic and you see every day you logged, going back as far as you have been tracking, along with your best streak.
Streaks are motivating because they make a missed day feel expensive. They are also unfair when you skip on purpose. Tell Claude “rest day today” or “I’m travelling until Sunday” and Dashly marks those days as skipped. Your streak holds, and nothing pretends you did something you did not.
Habits you want to do less
Some habits are about doing less: fewer energy drinks, less time gaming, no phone in bed. These work the same way with a limit instead of a goal. Say “I want to keep it to two energy drinks a day” and the tile counts down as you mention them, showing how many you have left today. Days you stay under the limit count as good days, and they build a streak like any other habit.
Why one wall beats a habit app
A habit app is good at ticking boxes and not much else. It does not know what you ate, how you slept or what you got done at work, so it cannot show you how your habits sit next to the rest of your life.
Dashly keeps everything you track with Claude on the same wall. Your reading streak sits beside your mood, your gym days beside your sleep. On top of the wall, a Today tile scores the day across all of it, so you know at a glance whether you are on track. And because it is your assistant doing the logging, there is no app to open and no box to find. You mention it in a chat you were already having.
If you also use ChatGPT, it writes to the same habits. Your streak is your streak, whichever assistant you told. The habit tracker page shows the tiles.
How to start
- Add Dashly to Claude as a custom connector. The Claude guide takes about a minute.
- Tell Claude your habits and how often: “read every night, gym four times a week, no more than two energy drinks a day”.
- Mention them as you do them.
After a week or so, your wall shows which habits are holding and which ones need a different time of day.
Questions
Can Claude track my habits?
Yes, once Dashly is connected. Claude logs each habit you mention to Dashly, which keeps the date and shows your week and your streak on a live tile.
Does Claude remember my streak between chats?
Dashly does. Every check-in is stored with its date, so your streak is the same in a new chat, in another assistant and on your wall.
What if I skip a day on purpose?
Tell Claude you are skipping today, for a rest day or travel. A skipped day does not break your streak, and it does not count toward it either.
Can I track habits I want to do less?
Yes. Give a habit a limit, such as two energy drinks a day, and the tile shows how many you have left. Days you stay under the limit count as good days.
