How to Build a Personal Life Dashboard From Your AI Chats

A personal life dashboard is one screen that shows how you are doing on the things you care about: food, sleep, workouts, money, work and habits, each against a goal. The easiest way to build one is to let your AI assistant fill it in. Tell ChatGPT or Claude what you want to track, and Dashly turns everything you mention into live tiles on a wall you can check in a few seconds.

What a life dashboard shows

The best personal dashboards are small. A handful of topics, each with a clear goal, beats fifty charts nobody reads. Common starting points:

  • food or protein, against a daily goal
  • water, workouts or steps
  • sleep or mood
  • spending against a monthly budget
  • a to-do list or a work number such as sales calls

Each topic answers one question at a glance: am I on track today, and how has this week gone? A good dashboard also gives you the whole day in one line, so you know whether to relax or catch up.

Why most life dashboards get abandoned

People build these in Notion, a spreadsheet or a journal, and they look great for a week. Then the data entry starts to slip. Every number has to be typed in by hand, in the right cell, every day. Miss a few days and the charts go flat, and a dashboard that is out of date is worse than none.

The design is rarely the problem. Keeping it fed is.

Building one without spreadsheets

You already tell your assistant much of this. You mention what you ate, that you went for a run, that the invoice is sent, that you slept badly. With Dashly connected, those sentences are the data entry.

Start by telling your assistant what to track and what you are aiming for: “track my water, 64 ounces a day, the gym four times a week, and my spending under $1,200 a month”. It creates each topic with its goal, and Dashly gives each one a tile shaped for it: a glass that fills for water, a streak for the gym, a budget bar for money. From then on, your assistant updates the right tile whenever the subject comes up.

There are no cells to fill and no formulas to fix. If you want a new topic, ask for it. If you want to change a goal, say so.

A wall for each part of life

Home holds everything you track, with a Today tile at the top that scores the day across all of it. You can open any topic to see its full history.

On Dashly Plus you can make more dashboards for different parts of life. A work wall for client follow-ups and sales. A family wall with chores and a step challenge. A training wall for the run you are building toward. Each one shows only the tiles you put on it.

Putting one on the kitchen TV

Home is only ever yours. To put a family wall on the TV in the kitchen, open dashly.si/pair on the TV, then approve the code it shows from your phone and pick the family dashboard. The TV shows that dashboard live and nothing else: no one can open your topics or read your entries from it, and you can remove it in Settings any time.

Why build it this way

A dashboard is only as good as its data, and the data is only as good as the habit of entering it. Moving the entry into conversations you already have is what keeps it current. You also keep the assistant you trust: ChatGPT and Claude write to the same wall, so it does not matter which one you opened today.

The home page shows three example walls, for a student, an apprentice electrician and a real estate agent, all built this way.

How to start

  1. Connect Dashly to your assistant: ChatGPT or Claude.
  2. Name three to five things you want to track, with goals.
  3. Keep talking to your assistant as usual.

Check the wall at the end of the day to see how it went.

Questions

  • What should a personal dashboard show?

The few things you are working on, each against a goal: often food, water, sleep, workouts, money and tasks. Start with three to five topics and add more as you need them.

  • Do I need a spreadsheet or Notion to build one?

No. With Dashly, your assistant creates the topics and logs to them as you talk, and the dashboard draws itself as live tiles.

  • Can I have more than one dashboard?

Yes. Home holds everything you track, and on Dashly Plus you can make more dashboards, such as one for work and one for the family.

  • Can I put my dashboard on a TV?

Yes. Open dashly.si/pair on the TV and approve the code it shows from your phone. Home shows only on your own devices; for a shared screen, make a dashboard with just what you want on it.
